The Minister Of Science And Technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has tasked Nigerian youths and professionals in the field of science and engineering on the utilization of science and technology to create jobs and wealth as well as exporting manpower to other countries.The minister said this when members of the Coalition For Civil Societies presented an award to him in his office for being the most consistent and best performing Federal Minister in the year 2017 in Abuja on Monday 26th of February 2018.He stressed the need for Nigerian youths to add value to their innovations through the utilization of Science and Technology in order to reduce importation of goods and services into the country which will in turn boost local production and the nations GDP. While receiving the award, Dr. Onu praised civil societies and commended its contribution to the furtherance of good governance in Nigeria.
According to the minister, the Ministry will partner with, innovators inventors and creative people in landmark strides so that in 15 years time, Nigerian firms can effectively export jobs to other countries like Chinese firms and bid for contracts outside the shores of this nation Earlier, the Executive Convener of the Co-alition for civil societies, Nafiu Bin-Afan said that the Minister was nominated for the award based on the prudence, accountability and patriotism he has displayed in the cause of discharging his duty in the year under review. He said that the body recognized how the minister utilized science and technology in fast-tracking Nigeria’s sustainable development and also in recognition of his landmark strides in piloting the affairs of the ministry as well as his contribution to meaningful governance. The award presentation was attended by selected members of the coalition for civil societies, and directors in the ministry.
