MINISTRY TO PARTNER WITH NEURO-SURGEONS

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to collaborate with the Nigerian Association of Neurological Surgeons to significantly reduce many health hazards associated with road accident.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Amina M.B Shamaki said this when the executive of the Nigerian Association of Neurological Surgeons paid her a courtesy call on Wednesday, 16 2018 in her office in Abuja.

According to Dr. Shamaki, “the commonest cause of head injuries is motorcycle accidents caused by careless riders, adding that the Ministry will soon develop safety kits to save the lives of users”.

The Ministry, she further said, is a service-oriented one ready to avail its research findings for the benefit of the society.

Dr. Shamaki also assured the neurological body of the Ministry’s support in hosting the congress of Continental African Association of Neurological Surgeons (CAANS) scheduled to take place in July. She assured the visiting team that relevant research agencies of the Ministry will partner with the body to make the conference successful.

Earlier, the president of the Neurological Surgeons, Prof. B.B Shehu said though formal training in Neurological study began 30 years ago, Nigeria can only boast of 78 Neuro-Surgeons to cater for 200 million people. He appealed for the assistance of the Ministry to ensure the success of the forthcoming congress of the Continental African Association of Neurological Surgeons.
