NIGERIA CAN FIGHT CRIME WITH TECHNOLOGY- ONU

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has said that Nigeria can effectively fight crime, manage intelligence gathering and boost commerce through the adoption of Gridcodes, a mobile application which was developed locally.

He said this at the Inauguration ceremony of the Inter-Ministerial Technical committee on the adoption of Gridcodes an address referencing free mobile app on Tuesday in Abuja.

 Dr. Onu said that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari tasked the creation of the mobile application locally, which is in line with the administration’s policy to indigenously build technology.

He further said that the mobile application would help Nigeria have a well Civilised and orderly society, based on the rule of law, Which in the long run provide a long-lasting panacea for peace.

Dr. Onu said Nigeria was ready to exploit our various natural resources and raw materials, in order to attain greatness and also occupy its rightful place among the comity of nations.

The Minister urged members of the Committee to show patriotism and ensure that a lot of hard work is put into the national assignment to enable effective implementation of the project.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Adoption of GRIDCODES free mobile application, Mr. Afe Idowu who is the Director of ICT in the Ministry, said the adoption of the mobile application would be of immense benefits for ease of governance, especially in security, commerce, business and various regulatory functions.
