Ministers unveils Akani Ibiam Under-18 sporting competition
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalong have unveil Under-18 sporting competition in honour of late Elder Statesman, Dr. Akani Ibiam to restore our lost value, strengthen unity and also showcase football materials produced in the country.
The Akanu Ibiam Under-18 football competition is put together by the two Ministers not only to honour the late patriots, but to bring back those core values that made Nigeria great in the past.
Dr, Ogbonnaya Onu said that the tournament will strengthen the bone of unity in the country and also show the capacity of Nigeria to produce all what the country needs for football tournaments call on all the stakeholders in the sporting sector to patronize sporting equipment produce in the country.
He gave the assurance that the Ministry of Science and Technology will support the tournament because it is of public interest.
In his remark, the Minister of Youths and Sports Solomon Dalong said that sport has no religion or race but always brings peace where there are crises.
He charged Nigerians to build a society were values is significant and a society where hard work is rewarded.
The Minister pledged to cue into the local content policy of this administration and call on the Minister of Science and Technology to request all the state governors to give one third of their security vote to building sporting facilities in their state because this will promote grassroots development .
He promised to engage all the stakeholders and put up a mechanism to ensure that integrity is sustain in the tournament. It is hope that it will produce players that will replace those who are doing very well in the national team.
All the sporting equipment to be used in the tournaments is produce by Agencies of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology
The tournament, which will be an annual event will commence on November 10, 2017 in Abakaliki .
