The Federal government is collaborating with the African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation to ensure that Nigeria improves on its healthcare delivery in Africa and beyond.
This disclosure was made by the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, during a courtesy visit by the delegation of the African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation in his office.
Dr Onu, in his address stated that the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is giving (ANDI) the necessary support in making sure that Nigeria’s aspiration as a nation is not only limited to Africa, but will also influence the global market in the production of drugs for disease that cannot be cured now.
He further stated that the ministry is attaching much importance to knowledge, and is focusing attention on diversifying the economy through innovation driven projects, by engaging some of the agencies under the ministry’s purview in manufacturing drugs with particular attention to diseases peculiar to the black African race.
He reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to ensuring that his administration delivers on the promises he had made to Nigerians in improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
In a related development, a delegation of the Nigerian Society of Engineers also paid a visit to the Honourable Minister in his office today.
In his opening remarks, the President Elect on African Union and Science Technology Commission Mr Mohammed Kyari, while briefing the Minister unveiled the candidate for Africa in the upcoming World Federation of Engineering Organisations election in December 2017 , in the person of Engineer Mustapha Balarabe Shehu.
Earlier in his remarks Dr Mohammed Kyari, informed the Minister that Africa will be presenting Engineer Shehu as its sole candidate for the election and that he is the most qualified to via for the position at the international level, because of his landmark achievements in the continent.
In his response, the Minister stated that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to change the way and manner Nigeria conducts her business, with priority given to local manufacturing in the country.
He also commended the African Union for adopting Engineer Shehu as the sole candidate for the election as he will be emerging as the first Sub- Saharan African to contest at the World Federation of Engineering Organization elections in December 2017.
