FEDERAL GOVERMENT IS DELIVERING ON ITS PROMISE TO DEVELOP INDIGENOUS TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS IN MANY ASPECTS OF OUR NATIONAL LIVES
The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is delivering on its promise to develop indigenous technological solutions in many aspects of our national lives.
This was stated at the presentation of an indigenous Speed Limiting Device developed by Sheda Science and Technology (SHETSCO) an agency under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. It was during a meeting between the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the ministry on Thursday.
While welcoming the Engineers, Dr Onu commended the Society of Engineers for the enormous contributions, they have made in nation building.
He reiterated the benefit of speed limiting device and noted that shortly after he assumed duty, he mandated SHETSCO to develop a speed limit device that is efficient and effective, portable and cost effective.
This, he said was the same challenge he put before all the other agencies under the ministry and that he is delighted to note once again, that three of the innovation and inventions from the ministry are already in the market place.
Dr Onu therefore challenged the Engineers to get involved in major national assets and make inputs into the development of Road Map on Science and Technology, and make inputs as critical stakeholders.
The Director General of SHETSCO, Professor Sunday Asuquo Thomas expressed satisfaction that the agency was able to meet the challenge put before them by the minister and promised to continue with research on the device to make it possible, in line with the minister’s mandate, for other nations to import them because of their superiority.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers Professor Otis Anyaeji , noted that production of the device locally is one way to create job and wealth and that it has been established that the cost of importation of a single commodity in a year is enough to set up a factory in that particular area and such factory has a life span of 25 -30 years .
He assured the Honourable Minister of the society’s participation at the ministry’s Technology and Innovation Expo scheduled for Monday, April 3-7th in Abuja.
