The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu says that Technology Orientation Center (TOC) built by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, (NASENI) will help Nigerian entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators gain greater access to the necessary process that would fast track the commercialization of inventions using indigenous technologies.
Dr. Onu disclosed this at the official commissioning of the NASENI Technology Orientation Center (TOC) at Idu in Abuja on 20th March, 2018.
According to the Minister, the center would enable Nigerians develop skilled human resources that will stimulate Research and Development as well as drive the new National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (2017-2030) vital to the diversification of the Nigerian economy for sustainable growth.
He said that it will also complement the cardinal objectives of the presidential Executive Order No 5 which seeks to promote self-reliance in our quest for rebirth as a modern nation of enhanced industrial capacity, especially in the areas of new and Emerging Technologies.
“This will enable Nigeria emerge a stronger nation of reduced capital flight, strengthened manpower development capacity, enhanced indigenous technology ability and a restored national pride”. Dr. Onu added.
He noted that the center will strengthen the resolve of the APC-led administration of President Muhammed Buhari to broaden the reach and deepen the depth of Science, Technology and Innovation in building a modern economy that will reposition Nigeria for the challenges of a post-crude oil global era in the fast changing world.
Earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna said that the center is dedicated to providing budding entrepreneurs, academics researchers and investors with enabling environment for interactions, design, application and exhibition of advanced manufacturing technologies with their accompanying products and services.
Prof. Haruna added that its new creativities, ideas, and innovations sections are dedicated also to host a gallery of exhibition portraying and preserving Nigeria’s history of ancient technology and engineering infrastructure development.
