Nigeria is to enhance the existing bilateral relations with Republic of Cuba in the area of health care delivery system and the utilization of Science, Technology and Innovation in solving problems affecting mankind.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu disclosed this when the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Nigeria Calos Frejo Sosa paid him a courtesy call in his office on Thursday, May 24, 2018 in Abuja.

Dr. Onu said that Cuba had deployed Science Technology and Innovations in solving many of her problems adding that Cuba has also developed vaccines that many other countries in the world are interest in.

“Vaccines that cure some diseases and help prevent other diseases and also they developed drugs that help manage a number of diseases including cancer which we are interested in, and many other countries are also interested in the vaccines” he said.

According to the Minister, “We share very common and strong bond of friendship with Cuba. We are very impressed with the contribution Cuba has made to the development of the world particularly in the health care delivery system”.

Dr. Onu also hinted that his proposed visit to Cuba with some members of management staff of the Ministry will further cement this relationship and the mutual benefits of the two countries.

“We are always happy and proud to recognise the contribution of Cuba to the liberation of many African countries. Cuba did not at any time think of holding back the most valuable thing which is her citizens. Cuba demonstrated it by sending not just medical doctors to heal the sick but also soldiers to fight for freedom” Dr Onu recalled.

He believed that the relationship between Cuba and Africa will continue to grow stronger and healthier but more importantly the relationship between Cuba and Nigeria because we also share common routs in terms of heritage. According to him, ”that is something we also value and appreciate and we continue to cherish it”.

Dr. Onu condole the people of Cuba over the loss of life as result of recent place clash in the country.

Earlier, the Ambassador of the People Republic of Cuba in Nigeria Calos Frejo Sosa said that the proposed visit of the Minister will strengthen relationship between the two countries.

He added that the agreement is expected to be signed will touch all specific areas in which Nigeria and Cuba can collaborate taking into account the achievements of Cuba in certain area of interest for the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and the strength on Nigeria in all areas we know we can count on them and go forward.
