The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has challenged engineering students in the country to take advantage of the Executive Order 5 to strive to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
Dr. Onu gave the charge at the School of Engineering 8th Biennial National Conference of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, during the week in Bida, Niger state.
The Minister, who was the special Guest of Honour at the conference told the students that ”So long as you as you prepared to work hard and excel in your operations so as to remain competitive, you will get all the support you need”.
He added that, “By Executive Order 5, we hope that in 20-30 years from now our professionals can compete effectively and possibly overtake the very best in the world”.
Speaking on the theme “National Peace and Economic Transformation: The Role of Science and Technology”. Dr. Onu siad that “I have come to this great institution of higher learning as way of encouraging you and assuring you that with hard work , commitment and determination , the future is bright”
Dr. Onu further said that the Executive Order 5 is a revolutionary instrument capable of changing our nation to a level of development that cannot be easily imagined. According to the him, “The Executive Order 5 will help to redirect our economy from old, unsustainable path of being resource-based to a new, sustainable and inclusive path of being a knowledge and innovation-driven economy
In the bide of the present admiration to popularize science, Technology and Innovation as well as encourage the commercialization of our Innovation and development results.
Dr. Onu said that the Ministry has concluded arrangement to organize a Technology and Innovation Expo 2019 which according to him. will encourage invention and innovation in the country and bring together Researchers, Innovators, Inventors and Investors.
The theme of the Expo “Science, Technology and Innovation for economic recovery and sustainable growth “ is scheduled for 14th -18th January, 2018 at Enugu in Enugu state.
