The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu has stressed the need to use the World Science Day to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues .
In his address on the 2018 World Science Day celebrations. Mr. Nabasu said Science was relevant to our daily lives and therefore citizens must be kept well informed of developments in the Science, Technology and innovation (STI) sector.
He said the celebration coincided with the celebration of 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adding that everyone has a right to participate in and benefits from science for sustainable development.
According to Mr Nabasu “World Science Day underscores the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the remarkable environment we live in and in making our societies more sustainable by linking science more closely with society”
