The Federal government is to establish centers for acquisition of technology in the six geopolitical zones of the country for the promotion of technology utilization, strengthening of technology management capability and information management system.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu disclosed this at the South-West National dialogue on the Presidential Executive Order 5 at the weekend in Ibadan.

According to the Minister, “all foreign experts working in Nigeria have to be certified by the appropriate regulatory bodies. In such case, effort will be intensified to trained Nigerians to have the same skills. No expatriate quota will be granted unless such skills are completely unavailable”.

Speaking further, the Minister who was represented by the Director, Legal, in the Ministry, (Mrs) Yvonne Odu-Thomas added that “goods that are consumed in very large quantities will have to be manufactured locally, in the shortest possible time”.

“Designs for all contracts, programs and projects will be in English language before such contracts are signed. The software’s for mapping solids minerals in Nigeria must be in English language”. He added.

Dr, Onu added that “A presidential Monitoring Evaluation Council with Mr. President as the Chairman will oversee the general   implementation of the Executive Order while the Secretariat is domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology”.

Dr. Onu noted that the present administration is determined to create an enabling environment to mobilize local investment and attract more foreign directs investment into the country and at the same time empower Nigerians, both young and old to participate actively in the management of the economy.

Earlier, in his welcome address the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu ,   said that the “Presidential Executive Order 5 “ for Planning and Execution of Projects, Promotion of Nigerian Content in Contract and Science, Engineering and Technology” is a deliberate step by this administration to usher in a new dawn in Nigeria”.

“A Nigeria where professionals in all spheres of endeavor will participate and make their contributions for its and sustainable development”. Mr. Nabasu who was represented by Director, Finance and Account, Ibriahim Yusufu added.

According to Mr. Nabasu , “ The Executive Order, is foundation for a acknowledge-based economic revolution that will eventually entrench Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) across all sectors of the economy”,
