The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has received the Best Performing Minister Award in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu.mni, who announced the award on behalf of the Staff, Directors and Director Generals of the Ministry’s agencies said the award was in recognition of the efforts of the Minister in repositioning Science and Technology sector in the country.
According to Mr. Nabasu, no Minister in the history of the Ministry has impacted the Ministry as Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu had done. He said Dr. Onu introduced durable and enduring policies to the Ministry. Such policies, he added, included the Science and Technology Road Map (2017-2030), the National Strategy for Competitiveness in Raw materials and Products Development, Executive Order 5 and the National Leather and Products Policy .
Mr. Nabasu said the entire management and staff of the Ministry are very proud of the Minister and his achievement, adding that the policies have started yielding dividends for the country.
According to him, “through the competitiveness in raw materials policy, the country will save as much as 3.6 trillion naira and create as much as 4.4 million jobs for the youths”.
He further said that Executive Order 5 initiated by the minister will empower more Nigerians at home and abroad to participate effectively in the management of the economy.
Mr. Nabasu lauded the Executive Order No.5 as a revolutionary policy which promoted economic nationalism and encouraged indigenous professionals in the economic scheme of things.
Nabasu said Dr. Onu’s tenure has brought new positive estimation by the general public to Science and Technology sector.
In his speech after receiving the award, the Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu thanked the entire staff, management and Dg’s of agencies of the Ministry for the award and promised to rededicate his efforts to do more for the country.
The award, he said will spur him to do more for the Science sector, the Ministry and the country at large.
