The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mohammed Abdullahi, has assured staff of the Ministry that their welfare and provision of good working condition would be given top priority.
Mohammed Abdullahi disclosed this during a meeting with the Joint Union Negotiating Council executive in his office on Wednesday in Abuja.
He further said that his background as a lawyer, has enabled him be abreast of the fundamental rights of the working class.
The Minister also stressed the need to ensure proper capacity development of the staff, adding that training and skill development are essential ingredients to effective policy formulation and implementation.
According to the Minister of state, in-house training, workshops and foreign training would be provided to the staff across all spectrum as the Ministry is a research-based institution which required continuous training
In addition, he assured all the staff that he will do all within the legal framework to ensure rights and privileges of workers are given.
On the issues of adequate transportation, office accommodation and other sundry issues, he promised to do everything within his power to “set the ball rolling” to make them realisable.
“It is important we ease the stress our workers undergo so as to ensure higher productivity”. he added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Joint Union Negotiative Council, Mr.Usino Christian said the Ministry has a reputation of good working relationship between the staff and management and assured the Minister of state that such practice will continue under his tenureship.
He also highlighted the major challenges bedeviling the Ministry, which include funding, logistics and transportation, Office accommodation and good welfare packages. He enjoined the Minister to look into these issues and proffer solutions to them.
