EXECUTIVE ORDER NO.5 TO ACCELERATE NIGERIA’S DEVELOPMENT – MINISTER

The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi (@MohdHAbdullahi) has said that the Executive Order No.5 will accelerate technology acquisition and utilization for rapid and sustainable growth and development of the nation.

Barrister Abdullahi disclosed this at the Nigerian Society of Engineers National Conference, 52nd Annual General Meeting during the week in Kano.

In a paper he presented, the Minister said the Executive Order No.5 for is meant to promote patriotism and economic nationalism among Nigerians.

Barrister Abdullahi further said that the President Buhari’s administration had deployed the Executive Order No 5 to redirect the country’s economy from its old unsustainable path, to the one that is knowledge and innovation driven.

In his word “The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (@Fmstng) shall harness Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to drive national competitiveness, productivity and economic activities in all sectors”

The Minister also said that the Federal Government recognizes that entrenching Science, Technology and Innovation in everyday life, is key to achieving the nation’s development goal across all sectors of the economy.

Barrister Abdullahi added that the Nigerian Engineers have a big role to play by contributing to the efforts already started by Mr. President in the development of infrastructure and enabling environment.

He urged the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to maximize the benefits that are provided by the Executive Order No. 5 so as to benefit their members and the country at large.

The Minister called on the professional bodies, Associations, Agencies, Commissions and the Academia, Captain’s of Industry, Entrepreneurs, States and Local Governments to embrace and fully participate in the implementation of this initiative by the present administration towards infrastructure development of the country.

Earlier, the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, said the decision to hold Kano 2019 NSE Conference in Kano was a well-informed one as Engineers and their allies would enjoy memorable hospitality of the Kano people, adding that it would afford them the opportunity to visit project sites, tourist sites, market places, and other interesting indigenous engineering artefacts in the state

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engineer Adekunle Mokuolu said the Nigerian engineers have always held the conviction that provision of functional infrastructure is imperative for the smooth running of economic activities, governance, comfort and wellbeing of the citizens.

He further said that the Nigerian Society of Engineers shall continue to partner with government and other stakeholders so as to build a virile and progressive nation.
