The Ministry early morning on Friday received in audience, Prof. Hippolite Amadi, a Professor of Medical Engineering and Technology from the renown Imperial College, London.
The professor was received, on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, by the Director, Department of Science and Technology Promotion, Dr. Ekanem Udoh.
Dr. Udoh assured Prof. Amadi of the readiness of the ministry to assist him in popularizing his invention, adding that the Ministry has always been encouraging inventors through the Presidential Standing Committee on Inventions and Innovation.
Speaking earlier, Prof. Amadi who is the first Nigerian to become a professor at the prestigious institute, said his invention “Bubble CPAP machine”, a phototherapy machine, was designed, localized and patented in Nigeria to save the lives of Nigerian babies.
In his words: “This is just one out of many I’ve created for low income countries of the world”.
He stressed the need for Nigeria to develop home-grown technology that would solve her health challenges.
He explained that what drives healthcare is technology, stressing that no country can solve her problems if it is dependent wholly on foreign technology. “Technology must understand the environment, technology is a lifestyle”.
He added that through his technology, he has saved the lives of more than 12 million Nigerian babies, adding many hospitals like Neo-Netal hospital, Minna, Abakaliki, Ilorin, Asaba and Gwagwalada teaching hospitals are already patronizing his technological inventions.
