The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu on Friday inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the 2021 Science and Technology EXPO.
Speaking during the inauguration, Dr. Onu said the EXPO, with the theme: “Science, Technology and Innovation for Economic Recovery and Sustainability amidst Covid-19 challenges”, is vital to the socio-economic survival of Nigeria, saying that it will enable the government access new streams of revenue.
Dr. Onu described the EXPO as a rendezvous of scientists, inventors, researchers, investors and stakeholders and will help showcase the research outputs of Nigerians to the global community.
In his word, “The Science and Technology EXPO will signal a better and stronger Nigeria to the international community”.
The Minister remarked that the EXPO will further assist the Federal Government in its economic diversification drive and build a stronger knowledge and innovation-driven economy.
According to Dr. Onu, the EXPO will afford researchers and innovators the opportunity to access resources of the Organized Private Sector and other stakeholders, thereby ensuring the development of scientific research and faster commercialisation of same.
Dr. Onu assured that the 2021 EXPO will be remarkable, as it will boost the nations Image, attract more investments and increase the quality of scientific research and innovations in the country.
He charged members of the Committee to do their utmost best to deliver a successful EXPO.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Committee and Director of Science and Technology Promotion in the Ministry, Pharm. Abayomi Oguntunde said the 2021 EXPO will be historic and will achieve its intended purpose of promoting Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the country.
He promised that the committee will work tirelessly to ensure the success of the EXPO and assured that it will be a memorable one.
