INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Information and Communication Technology Department (ICTD) is one of the fifteen (15) Departments of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation saddled with the responsibility of policy formulation, implementation and monitoring of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sub-sector of Science and Technology. The Department was created in 2007 following the approval of Mr. President for the establishment of ICT Departments in five (5) selected MDA’s. The Department is under the direct supervision of the Permanent Secretary, FMSTI.

DEPARTMENTAL MANDATES

  1. Overseeing the implementation of all ICT engineering infrastructure and development of software applications
  2. Deployment and Management of functional and reliable computer networks and Internet connectivity for Ministry;
  3. Design, development/update and maintenance of portals to facilitate access to Research and Development (R&D) activities, promote science and technology and other relevant information for the Ministry e.g. www.scienceandtech.gov.ng, www.nigeriatechnoexpo.gov.ng
  4. Organizing, coordinating and carrying out ICT capacity building programmes for members of staff of the Ministry for efficient, effective and timely service delivery;
  5. Maintenance of adequate ICT resources and infrastructure for the Ministry.

Departmental Responsibilities and Activities

The Department deals with policy formulation, implementation, and monitoring of the (ICT) sub-sector of Science and Technology. The specific responsibilities of the Department for the Ministry include, amongst others:

  1. Manage ICT Hardware Infrastructure
  2. Manage Software utilization
  3. Administer and Manage Network Infrastructure
  4. Represent the Ministry in Inter-Ministerial, Regional and International Committees on ICT development and related matters.
  5. Represent the Ministry in local and international ICT-related conferences, seminars, and workshops such as CTO, ITU, e-Nigeria, WSIS, etc
  6. Ensure that the Ministry’s activities are ultimately ICT driven
  7. Provide inputs for periodic review of the National ICT Policy
  8. Manage Internet connectivity and allied services
  9. FMST Website Administration and Management
  10. Manage Computer consumables specification
  11. Support ICT Capacity building & Tutoring
  12. Email Administration
  13. Database Maintenance
  14. Monitoring and Evaluation Process
